October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

Did you know that approximately 7.6 million animals enter shelters every year? And every year only about 1/2 are adopted out - the rest are are euthanized.*

Here are a few ideas of how you can help:
  1. Adopt a shelter dog.
  2. Make a donation - money or items! - to your favorite or local shelter.
  3. Spread the word on your Facebook or Twitter feed: Adopt a Dog and Save a Life month.
  4. Sign up to foster a dog.
  5. Volunteer at a shelter.

Saint Francis of Assisi

Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and the environment. Many shelters, vets, churches, and pet supply stores hold blessing ceremonies on October 4th in honor of Saint Francis.

Take a few minutes this upcoming October 4th, and wish your pet great health, lots of comfort, and endless love!

Hard Working Dogs of the Past, Present and Future

With the long Labor Day weekend approaching, we wanted to give a shout out to our 4-legged friends. Dogs have been working alongside men and women for thousands of years. As the world has modernized some of these dog jobs are still around, like herding animals or those pulling carts full of vegetables, hiking gear and medications in various areas of the world.

Today we have watch dogs, guard dogs, and dogs helping our Armed Forces. We have dogs that help with search and rescue and tracking a missing person. Dogs are working in airports, fire stations, police departments and hospitals.

Last but certainly not least: our beloved service dogs. These dogs help lead the blind, assist the hearing impaired and even alert diabetics when their insulin is low.

Have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend.
